An evaluation of postprandial glucose excursions in type 2 diabetic mellitus subjects on Monotard® HM (ge) versus Humulin N® or Humulin L® insulin, each in combination with metformin

چکیده
Background There is increasing evidence that postprandial hyperglycaemia is implicated in the development of macroand microvascular diabetic complications. Thus, control of postprandial glucose levels (PPG), in addition to control of fasting blood glucose (FBG), will ensure overall glycaemic control in diabetic patients. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a current anti-diabetic regimen on PPG in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Comparison of nateglinide and gliclazide in combination with metformin, for treatment of patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled on maximum doses of metformin alone
AIM To compare the effects of nateglinide plus metformin with gliclazide plus metformin on glycaemic control in patients with Type 2 diabetes. METHODS Double-blind, double-dummy, parallel group, randomized, multicentre study over 24 weeks. Patients with inadequate glucose control on maximal doses of metformin were randomized to additionally receive nateglinide (n = 133) or gliclazide (n = 129...
متن کاملEfficacy and safety of a mixture of two different brands of insulin products in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
BACKGROUND In the past, insulin products manufactured by different companies were considered to be incompatible. However, no studies have actually been conducted on insulin product compatibility. The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy and safety of a mixture of insulin products produced by different companies in patients with diabetes mellitus. METHODS Chart reviews were co...
متن کاملSimulated first-phase insulin release using Humulin or insulin analog HIM2 is associated with prolonged improvement in postprandial glycemia.
We examined the extent to which priming the liver with a pulse of Humulin or the insulin analog hexyl-insulin monoconjugate 2 (HIM2) reduces postprandial hyperglycemia. Somatostatin (0.5 microg.kg(-1).min(-1)) was given with basal intraportal insulin and glucagon for 4.5 h into three groups of 42-h-fasted conscious dogs. From 0-5 min, group 1 (BI, n = 6) received saline, group 2 (HI, n = 6) rec...
متن کاملMetformin supports the antidiabetic effect of a sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor by suppressing endogenous glucose production in diabetic mice.
Combined use of metformin and a sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2I) is a promising treatment strategy for type 2 diabetes. The mechanism by which combination treatment provides better glycemic control than metformin or SGLT2I monotherapy remains elusive. Therefore, we investigated the physiological mechanism by which both compounds lower blood glucose concentrations in diabetic mi...
متن کاملNateglinide alone and in combination with metformin improves glycemic control by reducing mealtime glucose levels in type 2 diabetes.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of nateglinide and metformin alone and in combination in type 2 diabetic patients inadequately controlled by diet, focusing on changes in HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and mealtime glucose excursions. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS In this randomized double-blind study, patients with an HbA1c level between 6.8 and 11.0% during a 4-week p...
